This fan memory was written by Joseph Aslaender.

I was 16 years old and had seen them at the NY Academy of Music as well as Central Park prior to this show. I went to see Giant at the Calderone Theater in Hempstead, NY on July 3, 1976. I recorded the show, a tape I still have, and was stopped by a Town of Hempstead policeman who saw me stuffing the cassette recorder down my pants (ouch!) -- after showing him the machine and explaining why I was doing this, he let me be but warned me about trying to conceal it on entering the theater.

The show was broadcast by WLIR FM, a local station, and I'm sure that the CD In'terview in Concert is from that broadcast, so in hindsight I could've saved myself some trouble by having someone tape it at home, but enough about that tape!

If I might add to Jory Gaier's memories of that show was that GG singing "Happy Birthday" happened around midnight (July 4th 1976 being the bicentennial of the U.S.) and that they played "The Midnight Hour" (!!!) -- with Kerry playing the middle eight line on the keys. THIS was not on the aforementioned CD, and I was wondering if that performance was a one-time thing.
