NOTE: Peter Waelti of Krokus Online says Krokus "never covered a Gentle Giant cover or interacted with them at all." (2008) (Thanks to Vasylyovych Volodymyr for this information.)
From: Bill Noland (bnoland@it.berklee.edu) To: On ReflectionA couple of years ago when I lived in Nashville, I walked into Rock Block Guitars where they always had the local FM rock station playing. On this occasion, the music playing was familiar to me. It was hard to hear but after a few seconds it was clear that the music was the rocking section of Peel The Paint, but it sounded like a live performance.Date: 16 Jan 1996 13:41:32 U
Needless to say, I was stunned. GG on the RADIO? I couldn't believe it. My wife recognized it too since we had just bought the album and were just beginning to get into GG. Suddenly, the music changed into this mediocre pop metal song! Same song, mind you, just did a 360 into a totally different part.
I asked the guys at the counter (who knew me all too well) what this song was. They said it was KROKUS, one of the more laughably pitiful heavy metal groups that were popular in the early '80's (though their career started in the mid to late '70's). It was apparently a live rendition of one of their early 'hits', though they didn't know the title. I told them the middle section was lifted straight from a GG song. They said they didn't doubt it because KROKUS stole from everybody.
So, that's my GG on the radio story... what a disappointment, huh? BTW, does anyone know what KROKUS song it is that has Peel The Paint as the middle section?
